Gweru, Zimbabwe, 6 May 2026 – EELA Zimbabwe has successfully concluded its five-day Expert-Level Energy Management Systems (EnMS) Deep Dive Training in Gweru, marking another important milestone in strengthening industrial energy management capacity across the country. 

The EnMS capacity-building programme was designed around two complementary learning tracks: a technical training course for engineers and operational personnel responsible for implementing energy management systems within organisations, and an executive masterclass tailored for business leaders and decision-makers seeking to integrate energy management into strategic planning and corporate governance. 

Delivered through a partnership with the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), the technical training equipped participants from industry, government and academia with the knowledge and practical tools required to implement Energy Management Systems aligned with the ISO 50001 standard. The programme focused on helping organisations identify energy losses, optimise energy consumption, improve operational performance and translate energy data into measurable business results. 

The first training session was launched in Bulawayo and ran from 29–30 April and 4–6 May, bringing together engineers, production specialists, quality assurance personnel and other technical professionals from a range of sectors. Facilitated by international energy management expert Alfred Hartzenburg, the course combined technical knowledge with practical application, enabling participants to develop the skills needed to establish and maintain effective energy management systems within their organisations. 

Complementing the technical component, the Executive Masterclass held on 7 May provided business leaders and senior executives with an opportunity to explore energy management from a strategic perspective, highlighting its role in reducing operating costs, improving competitiveness and strengthening organisational resilience.

A particularly encouraging outcome emerged at the conclusion of the programme. Following the training, participants were offered the opportunity to sit for a voluntary 1.5-hour examination designed to assess their understanding of the concepts and methodologies covered during the course. More than 80% of participants elected to take the examination, demonstrating a strong commitment to professional development and a growing interest in energy management expertise within Zimbabwe’s industrial sector. 

The strong participation in the voluntary examination reflects both the quality of the training and the increasing recognition among Zimbabwean professionals that energy management is not only an environmental imperative, but also a strategic business opportunity. Following its successful delivery in Bulawayo and Gweru, the programme will also be rolled out in Harare, further expanding its reach across Zimbabwe’s industrial ecosystem.
